Laurentius Church, Kimswerd

The Laurentius Church has stood in the Frisian town of Kimswerd for nearly 1,000 years. Time has left its marks on the church. One of the most recent additions can be found in the chancel. Artist Nynke van Schaik created two stained-glass windows in 2012. The work depicts the varied Frisian landscape with a colourful sky above it. The 17th-century Protestant church interior is a unique example of a Frisian church from that period. The interior also contains references to the noble Van Heemstra family. One of them, Ibella Ida van Tiara, is buried here with her mother and grandmother. Her will stated that her grave should be inspected annually. So far, that inspection has been faithfully carried out for more than 320 years!
